This website is brought to you by The Epigenome Network of Excellence, a european research network dedicated to supporting high calibre science in the rapidly expanding field of epigenetics
As part of the human genome project, Ian was instrumental in drawing a gene map of chromosome 22. Still in the map-drawing business, Ian has turned his attention to generating epigenomic maps as part of the ENCODE project, which aims at understanding the function of the vast amount of DNA sequence generated by the human genome project. The epigenomic maps he intends to generate will show the position of epigenetic marks on the DNA sequence. These epigenetic marks will include sites of chemical modifications of DNA, as well as of chemical modifications of histone proteins that bind to DNA.
